Going Green.. Its About Time

The New buzzword in town, Green, green, green. If you havent noticed, everyone everywhere is talking about going green, from renewable resources, to waste reduction, to carbon cutting, to trading of green stocks, to new technologies, to global treaties.

What can we do? what can insignificant you or me do to help in this whole big plan?

First, watch "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore which won an Oscar, and guaranteed to inspire. I watched it, and I think everyone who has a chance should watch it too.

Well, its about time Singapore did something too. You would be pleased to note, we singaporeans are pumping in $170 million into reserach on solar power as reported by the Straits Times, 17 March 2007.

wow. that is alot aint it? Europe is considering carbon taxing, setting carbon reduction targets, and the European Commission planning to raise renewable fuels to 20%. UK is considering a green tax. on top of that, actively recycling. US starting on tightening automobile standards. take a look at news.BBC.co.uk for the whole wide expose on different measures, controls, methods and plans in the pipeline. and we are just starting to "research" green technology mainly because it will spur more jobs. seems like a small step for us, a giant leap of catch up to do.

The world is changing, and change we must to stay ahead. But how fast is that change? considering we had our last hottest summers in the last 5years for the whole of 2000years, and the most number and severe of thunderstorms, floods, droughts, seems like that change aint as slow as we thought. It is upon us to act now, and to act, we must be aware. To be aware, we must be perceptive and willing to acknowledge change is necessary. Should we even be concerned or remain aloof and apathetic? I think the facts speak for themselves.
