GLADIATOR

Just got home from the airport and shaun's place. Had a great time celebrating CNY with greg at BK. BKB! big-king-burger. Greg's off to ski, leaving the guys behind. sigh.. after he left, we went to pick cai up and went to shaun's place to watch gladiator. i think its my 4th time watching. but i totally enjoyed every ounce of the show.

Thanks Shaun's mom for the angbao =o)

bring it on, mother fucker

uneventful day(night) at zouk.

ian as per normal, promised me he'd be at Kem at 10, but nothing heard out. cabbed with greg.

drank chivas and vodka along riverside. rather fun to get high before going in. mark seow is a
pookie and said he got jamming prac. too cool la mat. paiseh late to meet you though.

had heart to heart for 3 hours with jimmy and steven, about how evil the world is, how devious girls are and why there's no meaning in life. well. kinda.

then it was 2am and i haven't entered zouk yet.

so i send smses to greg and ian - "where you?"

noone replies, so i scout the place twice. finally see greg dancing albeit off balance. no babe with him. see zo with babe. see terence with babe. where's ian? with babe. shaun no babe. so shaun dance with greg. greg abit gone. 15 tequilas makes greg gone. vaune comes. says she'll be back. but at the rate girls discard me, hell will freeze over before she comes back. greg starts spouting nonsense. apologizes to people around for greg's mumbling. something about somebody's mother.

dance dance dance. ian finally replies. where you. at 3.30am. thanks. zouk ended. nothing happened on my side. bored.

zo drove so we hopped on. stopped at the red light, saw these cute chicks checking out zo's car in their toyota. they see us checking them out. they wave. they wink. a challenge. red light. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. go.

zo steps on it.
we see the toyota in front.
zo steps harder.
we still see the toyota in front.
zo steps even harder (his zhng-ed car making alot of noise)
we see the toyota stopping at red light in front.

zo (winds down window): "you driving auto or manual? PLEASE DON'T TELL ME AUTO"
chicks: "it's manual man. are YOU driving auto?"
zo: "no it's manual. why so slow ah. the next red light!"
chicks: "bring it on, motherfucker"

red light. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. go.

zo steps on it.
we don't see the toyota.
zo steps harder.
we still don't see the toyota.
toyota horns and signals' left. chicks gone.

zo: "wah my car eat petrol. the needle went down"

we get off, flag a cab. send greg home. he gives me two dollars. mother pookie. send ian home. ian got 50. no change. gives me nothing. so as per norm shaun pay all. $13.65. pay up.

another uneventful yet pleasant chilling session. bring it on, motherfucker.

PAP Propaganda? WP might have some credit afterall..

i refer to Straits Times online article: Jan 23, WP'S REACTION TO MINISTERS' COMMENTS Workers' Party will stick by its platform
By T. Rajan

"The PAP ministers' position is that the WP proposal to scrap grassroots organisations threatens social cohesion; its call to do away with ethnic integration policies will derail multiracial harmony; while the call to raise subsidies is fiscally unsound. The WP's proposal to scrap the Elected Presidency will also remove a check on the Government, argued the ministers."

all these expressed are my personal views so feel free to disagree or tag anything.

it was said that the WP's manifesto had 4 time bombs.. as stated above.. but to think of it, maybe its not that unsound, or it could be slightly radical but because of elections drawing near, some feel its better to make a mountain out of a molehill or to play down certain party's merits.

1st, the idea to scrap grassroots. i did a google search and found the grassroots website and found this definition : "The People's Association (PA) being the leading government agency that promotes social cohesion, racial harmony and Government-to-People connectivity, has a network of about 1,800 grassroots organisations. The grassroots organisations are managed by volunteers who work with the PA to organise a wide range of programmes and activities to cater to the needs and interests of Singaporeans from all walks of life" It is said that grassroots actively promote social integrity and promote racial harmony. but dont you think that an organisation so dedicated to social building should be so politically involved? it even goes by the name People's Association.

2ndly, its call to do away with public housing quotas. the defense WP raise is that SG is already so multi-culturally mixed that we can do away without it. and it was challenged that without quotas, neighbourhoods might segregate along racial lines. But do we have quotas for Private Housing? housing like condos, terraces and bungalows. estates of terraces and bungalows are often large and might be a "mini-neighbourhood". do we see racial segregation happening in those estates? the answer is no. market forces also play an important role. just as flats are fixed price, so all will have an equal chance at bidding, or first-come-first-serve. of course, if blocks are seen to be "culturally" segregated then the govt might step in, but that doesnt mean the quota must stay indefinitely and for all public housing.

3rdly, raising subsidies seen as fiscally unsound. on the face of it, it might seem unsound. but lets not forget the very deep pockets and foreign reserves that SG has kept hidden away in banks. During election time, we do see some Budget goodies, tax cuts, rebates etc. who is going to pay for them? seems like these budget incentives are passed easily near election time, but the oppositions call to raise subsidies are promptly quashed. moreover, in developed countries, such as UK and US, heavy subsidies are given to the young and the old as medical benefits, pensions and state paid education. of course this comes with high tax rates but who are we to complain if some day in yr 80's u fall ill with no money to see a doctor, and u are glad u have state sponsored medical coverage to fall back on. moreover, are we not also paying rather high tax rates on income tax and CPF? housing, cars and medical care is definitely not getting cheaper

4thly, the removal of an elected president might remove a valuable check on corruption of ministers. but lets us think of the last 2 presidential elections. there was not a single opposition to challenge the presidency, let alone elect one. appointment might save us the trouble of having an election with so few candidates, and perhaps a well-informed presidential committee make better choices than common people influenced by presidential propaganda. Whether or not corruption is checked falls within the job scope and quality of the person elected and i doubt it has nothing much to do with the way the president holds office.

lastly, the WP call to switch to proportional representation instead of GRC's. it was argued that GRC's was a better method. but do u think its fair that at the last election, with approx 39% support WP received in seats contested, that WP only gets one seat in parliament while PAP has 82? of which 55 were walkovers. if we were to go by proportional representation, WP would get the proportion of seats as supported by the whole electorate.. say approx 10%. and that would be approx 8 seats. this method is also used for parliaments in several countries to ensure non over-dominance by one single party. one might argue 'dont fix what aint broke' but for our opposition to be at least a credible voice, to provide significant views contrary to the mainstream views expressed, 1 seat is definitely not the way to go. perhaps WP should reanalyse their strategy, perhaps the playing field should be more level. perhaps voting wasnt so easy as ticking the box with the Blue circle and the Red lightning bolt.

Confessions of a Damn Lousy DOTA player

It ain't easy when all your friends are super ultra Dota pros and you're more of a Dota pawn than anything else. First of all there's the odd feeling that you really ought to be better than this. I mean, the basic skills seem easy enough. Just click here click there, buy this buy that, run up and down and shoot at people. And the easiest (not to mention the most fun) skill to master: hollering KNNBCCB and trashing your keyboard and mouse after you die. Either that or be a silent brooding jackarse for the rest of the day. But that requires a bit more effort so I haven't been able to master it yet.
Another consequence is that when you're out playing the game with your mates, they start feeling compelled to educate you on the finer points of fragging your friends and what not. Now don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing inherently wrong with that. I appreciate it in fact. The only problem is that usually what they say and what I hear are two completely different things. For example:

What They Say: Stay behind the creeps and don't be too garang hor. Don't die

What I Hear: Kill

'Eh that was close! Stay behind the tower! Don't so garang!'

'Kill kill kill.'

'Oi! NO! DON'T GO DON'T GO!!!'

'KILL KILL KILL the pigs! Rape their women!! Drink their blood!! And remember to steal their Ben and Jerry's from the fridge on your way back!!!!!'

But of course when things are going about like this, you're bound to hear (or think you hear) some decidedly off centre things.

'Next time they come again you faster stun one and then I chu my jialat jialat power kew them all!'

'Eh did you know that I can rub my belly, pat my head and sing Yellow Submarine while riding a uni-cycle upside down?'

Whereupon I usually say:

'Eh really ah? You can do that?'

'Shh, don't later everybody know.'

When you're waiting for your hero to revive half the time, you have a lot of opportunity to think about these things.

things people do when they are bored

my colour for the night..

Black

Your color is black. The color of night. Serene and mysterious, black conjures up images of elegant evening gowns, dashing tuxedos, and gleaming limousines. Traditionally a symbol of success, black also represents power and an uncompromising demand for perfection. Not surprisingly, you tend to set challenging goals for yourself and do whatever it takes to achieve them — your strength of character is second to none. This unfaltering determination, along with your natural elegance, impresses people. But keep in mind that your personality might be intimidating to some. Try to temper your demanding side with a little softness — trust us, it won't kill you. Overall, though, black is the color of professionalism and achievement, which means it's clearly the color for you.

does speak rather accurately about me, but is this what i want ?
hm..

sometimes...

sometimes someone interesting "falls from the sky onto our laps".
only cos we do honestly wanna know them and bring them into our lives. though their place isn't yet determined.

but

sometimes it seems that "we prefer the girl doing all the work and pursuing".
often the truth is being we're not really sure of where to start. so help is welcome.

so

sometimes it seems "when it happens, we tell ourselves its cos we're f*cking gdlooking".
cos we always have this front that is apparently unbreakable. an aura of arrogance if you wish. (ok, sometimes it's true. not entirely denying it. but it's only *sometimes*.)

moral of the story, we are lazy, undeniably so. but acting like girls sitting on a pristine throne waiting for your brave princess to slay the dragon and rescue you isn't going to get you your girl who fell from the sky. do something today that will make you seem more tempting than the rest. exclusivity only gets you so far until she loses interest.

it's done..

for those who know, let's just believe it as a dream...
something that was sacred and beautiful.
something that was too good to be true.

we could have made it work, we could have found a way
we shoud of have done our best to see another day
but we kept it all inside until it was too late
and now we're both alone, the consequence we pay
for throwing it all away

mmmm

yesterday was just... an "oh my god" night
see greg, i finally bought the bottle i promised, albeit with help from mark. so now when is it your turn to buy us drinks? at least ian came up with the teh peng..lau the shots, mark the redbull

where was greg and cai's contribution???????(nvm i forgive cai cause i emptied the chivas onto his palm in my drunked state)

and the guys who chased us away was my cousin and her friends and her father. that's samantha kudus, and my uncle, uncle simon. in lay man terms their sabbie's sister and father. she recognized me when she was telling me that i'm taking her table, but by then i was not thinking straight. someone was spiking my chivas coke. i was drinking chivas coke and she was drinking coke.

it's quite funny he offered to buy me a drink. how often do you see dad's with their daughters at zouk.

last night was awesome.

"when it dont, we curse luck for giving her to that guy instead"

moral of the story, we're lazy.

Hotness is most important in a boyfriend/girlfriend. This indicates that you are mostly into having an attractive partner. You prefer to date around, and don't usually get attached.

2006

woo! now that's one clichéd title. duh you say? ditto.

early in the morning, just came back from MoS, a little tired, somewhat worn out, having just enough energy to say this just cos i'm inspired to.

it's a revelation, to realise that i have a fear of expectations. i'm not about being emo or what but rather it's just that time of your life where you go in deep to find out really what you're made of. what makes you tick. what makes you shrink and hide. couldn't find a full term for it after googling the "phobia-list", half expecting(ha!) to find an "expectophobia" somewhere, but nope, nada, zip.

so as i was saying i have this tiny problem with expectations. not the fact that i can't meet them. i CAN if i want to. it's just that...the presence of expectations makes ian here a little unsettled. it's THAT MERE PRESENCE. why? cos he fears it. like when someone expects you to call. like someone expects you to ask them out, when someone expects you to dance with them. it's as if you're being forced to do something when people expect it from you. like you're obliged in a way. and to me, it feels like crap. i mean if i want to do it, i definitely will. you can count on that. i'm not born to meet empty expectations.

and...another thing. to hear things about yourself. so i said i was at MoS. and i see this very familiar girl and we talked abit. i honestly couldn't remember anything except this line: "well, you're a player aren't you. i heard you're one." well i hardly even know this girl and that came so naturally out of her like it was the most undeniable truth. i just smiled back.

i didn't know where that came from but i didn't fight it, neither am i affected by it. silence doesn't mean the consent that i'm one. it's really up to you to decide. if you don't know me and you think so, well then, i'm glad for you.

it's just to say that with so much bullshit flying around the world, you can't possibly fight off or deny every single one. everyone will have their detractors, everywhere there are gonna be rumour-mongers. if you're gonna deny every single thing that you hear and get affected by everything that goes around, you're gonna have a very hard life.

all the noise in the world honestly don't matter when you have friends who've seen your good and bad and still decide to stay around. i've had great times with these people even if we pissed each other off, sometimes. you could matter too, if you're someone who've heard all that nonsense but you're still open-minded enough to decide that you will judge me with your own eyes. i'm sure we'll enjoy a brilliant future if our paths do meet. so, cheers to you. you, who matter.

once again, happy new year one and all. do take things easy in this new year people and everything will fall into place where they belong. hope you have an absolutely smashing 2006 and do share it with me. take care.
